Lame leather steering wheel project (partial wrap)

I am trying to get my steering wheel wrapped in leather (to give it Sciot TC type factory look) which appeared to be more difficult than I expected.. in the mean time, did a partial wrap as a temporary solution.. feels so much different than the oem wheel.. the wheel got thicker, softer and much nicer to hold..

comments welcome

That looks very nice!

Just curious, what did you use to wrap it? (I mean, duh, I know it's leather...) It almost looks like a chopped up WheelSkinz... Never seen someone do a partial wrap. Neat idea!

Thanks

I bought a piece of leather from ebay which is claimed to be automotive quality... (nice and stretcheable)..

Thread is polyether stuff from the crafts store (crazily strong).. I used basic stitches to try how leather wraps stuff.. there are couple other nicer looking stitch types

I have a spare steering wheel which I found at a nearby junkyard.. I will keep trying to do the full proper wrap with it (a bit busy with other things now)

I also want to do the matching boot for the gear box shifter (it looks kinda cheap)

Thanks for the info... wrapping my steering wheel is somewhere on my "if I had more money, I'd consider" list of things to do. If anything I'd probably go with one of the kits you can get. I know there was someone on here that bought one and it turned out really nice... on par with what you did yourself but the whole wheel.

That's the same leather (and same vendor) that I used for my door panels. It perfectly matches the hole pattern and spacing on the Clazzio perforated leather seat covers.

Your wrap is canted 10 degrees, you should send it back.

I'm looking into getting some front-only Clazzio's as well as some extra leather for the panels. Mind telling me exactly which colors you went with? TIA
