HELP!!!!
I was replacing the water pump and bent back the bracket on the alternator and I accidentally broke off the top of the sensor for the VVTI. The issue I'm having is that the replacement VVTI actuator doesn't fit! I know for a fact I ordered the right part. It just doesn't look like it would fit. Is it possible the sensor is stuck in the engine? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Pics to come.....

Yes, you likely snapped it off where it enters the head and the actual oil control solenoid part is still inside.
The easiest way to get it out it to remove the valve cover and then use either a pointed air hammer but or a screw driver with a hammer to tap it out from inside. iirc you shouldn't need to remove the camshaft to get a thing piece of drift onto the end of the sensor to hit it out If you ever need or want an extra oem vvt solenoid, I have one from my 1nz sitting on my workshop right now

You were right! I guess I somehow broke it off in the motor. I was able to get a small flathead screwdriver on the inside of the motor and push on the sensor to get it out of the engine. Once removed, the new sensor was installed without any issues! Now I guess I have to tackle a few oil leaks, I think oil was leaking from that sensor (which should be fixed as the new sensor comes with a new o-ring) and I think it's leaking from the front timing cover. How hard of a job is it to replace that gasket? P.s. thanks for the offer of letting me use your sensor! -Sebastian |
