FTW! Have talked to the guys over there before. Very helpful. Oh and the Tacoma has been done before for those that don't know (Drift Yaris) I think the 2AZ would leave little to no room in the engine bay (especially for those with the liftback). No room for boost unless you have some decent sized pockets. We all know with enough money, anything can be done.

Orientation on any engine swap will require mods to the engine bay with the LB. No one is saying it easy, but it can be done. It just needs to be thought out and not just thrown in there. Def the way for any beginner would be to start with there 1nz and build it to their liking. Finding a black top that hasn't been beat to hell is hard these days, so you take what you can get and if you have the know how, then any comp engine with a higher HP/TRQ will do our car just fine. Take Foth's 3az in his drfit Yaris. Not the greatest engine in the world and really only one "good" aftermarket company that makes items for this engine. Most pieces are one off items, but the end result is it's a machine that will produce. I know of three local 2az's that are pulling over 600 hp easliy. Why? They had the know how and were able to research their cars ability. |

yes, it needs to be added, any swap for any engine is always possible, just requires varying amounts of skill, time and money (usually the latter).
Mike, go watch Monster Garage to get in the mood ![]() And yes, the 2AZ has pretty good aftermarket support thanks to the tC...

I would love to do a 3S-GTE swap. thoes motors are extremely stout and i'd be willing to go as far as saying they are better then the 2JZ. Might even be the best toyota 4-6 cylinder engine toyota ever produced.

Doesn't Top Secret or some other badass Japanese tuning brand have a 3S-GTE powered Supra?

yes they do ;) Then again if money were no object then a 7age (7afe with a 20valve head and offset crank) would be the way to go. Stroke it to 2.0 and you have a very nice motor.

the concept is, whats the most na horses you can pull?
with all the lack of space, boosting the car would not be much of a choice.

once again, the wallet's the limit... Most legendary would be those 11,000RPM 4A-GE's that can get what, 250hp out of a 1.6L engine?

+1 to that...
A 8,000 RPM 170whp motor would be plenty to get this car around corners That is why the top of my list is a 4age blacktop, with a 6spd lsd tranny... It will have plenty of room in the engine bay of a hatch, plenty of upgrades for getting to get even up to 190ish whp with a flash and tune. Imagine a 190whp Yaris whipping around a corner with a stiff set of coilovers, just blowing past a car that costs double and has double the horses of a stock Yaris...pure magic to my imagination.

Question is, will it fit in a 07 Yaris or newer? I know that yours was crammed into an Echo hatch, so I am unaware of the possible structural differences between the two. But my gut would say if it doesnt work on the old, more than likely it will not work on the new.
Just keeping in mind if it to be a AutoX car only, only real gears needed are 1 and 2

Here in Puerto Rico there is a Yaris HB that swap the engine by one of a corolla XRS. I thinks is a 2AZ dual vvt-i. 160Hp in a HatchBack?! Thats insane

You see the original XRS/TRD Corolla featured the 2zz-ge which was the same motor placed in the Celica GT-S and Matrix XRS... It would be possible to place the 1.8L 2zz in the HB, but I am still unconvinced that the 2az is small enough or compact enough to it inside the tiny Hatchback engine bay.
Not trying to be a dick, but I personally would like to have either some photo evidence, followed up with a video of it running. Anything to prove that it would be plausable

Compression ratio: 9.0:1 or 12.3:1!!! That would be a NASTY all-motor Yaris! |

My dream Yaris is cramming an STI motor in this car, then changing from FWD to AWD.
