well, if you established that the filter - drop in or otherwise, doesn't provide any gain, the only reason to get one at all will be for looks/feel, as you can just take the filter off of both the k&n and an SRI or CAI to wash, however the SRI/CAI makes a noticeable sound difference, and looks better (IMO) where I don't believe the drop in does.
