What I thought I'd do was

Shaft. So to get ignition switched I'll just have to plug into that panel under the dash and route it back through the firewall? Will it be OK to ground it to the frame or do I need to run the ground back through to there also?

Chassis grounding is fine. You can go through the little grommet that is right above the ECM for making your way into the cabin.
