Lowering Spring Advice

Hi guys..

Firstly I love my Yaris to Bits.. thou its a little high. I wondered whats the best advice u can give me for Lowering the car a bit. I do corner alot with the car so I'd like to know the best bang for my buck combo. Also I live in South Africa so parts arent so easy to come by. Im gna change my rims but i wont go 17s as I heard the ride is too hard I want to go the whole stance approach.. Since Petrol is too expensive here cant drive fast anymore so can only look good. Also if anybody knows any good Panelbeaters let me know.. my fenders are looking a bit shabby now..

it's hard to say without knowing what you have available.

I am using Megan Racing Springs, not sure how good they are but got them cheap.

The drop is advertised to be about 1.5" or 38.1mm

I would go with our Micro Image springs for the best combination of price, low-ness, and performance. Or Tanabe DF210 or Tein S Techs.

[edit] just noticed your audio set up -- MI springs are a little stiffer and will help with the extra weight you've added in the rear.

I have Tanabe NF210's on stock struts. I do believe DF210's are too low if you have a lot of crappy roads and speedbumps. Even with the NFs my tires rub every now and then because of this, and they are quite a bit taller than DFs. MI springs might be a different story, though.

I am moving from Eibach Pros to DF210s. As you can see from the photo, the Eibach's simply don't lower it enough and after extensive discussion with Micro Image and the wide variety of other springs to move to the "next" level, I am going with DF210's.

I am running 16x7s with 205/50/16 Kumho's. I have Tokico reds which I can stiffen if the rubbing with DF210s gets out of control. I use this car for daily driving on mainly highways so rubbing won't occur much regardless.

Well for now ive been shoping around.. for now ive seen what they got.. if i import them its going to be alot more expensive.. SA taxes are hectic.. So i guess I need to save up and go for a good set.. thanks for the advice

I have the Tanabe NF210 on stock struts as well. Louisiana roads kinda suck but it's been okay so far.

^^^ good point. If you want all looks and adjustability at the (potential) expense of ride quality, then I guess coilovers are an option.

I just think that a big percentage of YW members are accustomed to mostly perfect flat roads with the occasional pothole here and there, while the rest of us mortals need to consider bad roads, steep hills, speed bumps the size of small walls, holes made as if by a meteorite... I could go on.

oh, but those are so fun with coilovers! Worrying if your car is going to shake itself apart like you are being fired upon by a star destroyer is quite entertaining.

I do have to come to a complete stop before attempting any speed tables. Oh well, I do so enjoy pissing the people off behind me.

Yeah roads are roads for the most part everyone has some good some bad. I had to add about 20 minutes to my daily commute to avoid a portion right by our stadium that looks like the moon. You get used to a stiffer bumpier ride and going slow and avoiding some areas. I actually don't like being I'm stock suspension cars tho anymore.

You could buy some take offs from a 2013 SE(about 12mm lower), as they come with a sports tuned suspension. Those springs and some Tokinco blues will give you a very nice ride. I did this along with a WhiteLine sway bar, and I've had a half dozen friends drive my Yaris, and they all give the same response, WOW! this thing handles GREAT!

Might be a good choice for those who are looking for a subtle drop to try to maintain comfort. For my taste, it'll still be too high. I wonder if they're using TRD springs, or something completely different.

There's no TRD stamp on them, but out of the car they were about 1.5 inchs shorter then my 08 stockers, but they were a good bit stiffer, so the ride only dropped about 1/2 inch.

Got a set of cold wound Megan racing springs if anybody in so cal looking for a two inch drop. Specific for the 2008-2011
