How does that compare to other combos that you have run on that car?

These are the statistics so far...

1,931 miles with the stock intake manifold got an average of 35.9mpg.

5,592 miles with the tooter got an average of 36.4mpg
(although that included a full winter of cold weather driving which always yields lower mileage)

248 miles with the tooter et got an average of 42.6mpg
(although that was just one fillup with a lot of high speed freeway miles)

The best prior fillup was 39.1mpg.
(with freeway driving)

I'll post more mileage figures when I rack up enough to be able to get an accurate indicator. And I'll be down at Harry's dyno shop as soon as I can find a break from work.

Well, remember that was just one long trip, and most of it was between 65mph and 80 mph. It'll settle down to a more reasonable average in a little while.

I can say this. The engine runs really good on the freeway, and if I had to hazard a guess why, it would be porting the mouths of the runners. Those rough welds were really overhanging the intakes.

The dyno will tell the tale.
All the bullshit ends there.

This is making me think that the 1NZ could benefit from longer intake runners...than oem. Let see what the DYNO says and some more daily driving testing. :)

BTW.. Awesome!

Thanks, man.
It's fun experimenting just to see what will happen. The tooter's runners are one inch longer than stock, which is only 5% longer. However, they are oriented completely different than the stock runners in that they look directly at the throttle body like an exhaust header...

Sorry, Blue.

I've been distracted with developing another tooter product...

And just got the prototype running on my truck today...

It made the intake runners 12% longer and really lowered the torque curve. I can slip the clutch in first gear with no gas pedal and the truck doesn't stall out even down to just 400rpm.

The Yaris is running great...

...and It'll be on the dyno soon after we drive it a while to make sure everything gets settled in.

I cut about half of the bend off of the slilcone coupling to straighten the intake because the air filter didn't need that much bend. So it's all ready to run...

Just called Harry...

...dyno test is on for Saturday.

...and the Tacoma hits the dyno next week if I can find the free time.
I already did the baseline dyno, so the next one will be with the tooter II.VII.

On the dyno, the tooter et didn't perform any better than the regular tooter, but it didn't perform any worse either. With 111hp and 105tq the graphs are basically the same. So for all my tinkering around, I didn't actually change anything!

thanks for the data...

Tooter, please remind us. How do your fully modded figures compare with "bone stock"?

Thanks, Doug

While it's disappointing to see that there isn't an appreciable improvement, it's certainly unique. Have you considered changing the runner length on a "standard" tooter for comparison?

Here's bone stock dyno runs from the dyno chart sticky thread:

The results.

Stock:

91hp

91tq

Tooter:

111hp

105tq

So with:

Intake
Throttle body
Intake manifold
Header
Axle back exhaust

I have 22% more horsepower, and 15% more torque with the stock ECU, no tuning, and regular 87 octane pump gas. Latest gasoline fillup today: 39.4 mpg.

Total cost: $1,350

I'd also add that none of these modifications has altered the basic reliability economy or longevity of the engine. My wife's car is still just a regular daily driver that always needs to be in service.

Now it's just way more fun to drive...

Impressive results!

Tooter,

I would estimate you have optimized the volumetric efficiency of this particular air pump. A gain of 20 hp at the wheels is awesome. Without changes to cam timing, fuel map, and injectors (meaning access to the ECU), I cannot imagine there is anything left in a naturally aspirated Yaris. Think about it...your at the crank hp is pushing 125+.
