Hard-to-crank manual windows
The manual-crank windows on my 2012 Yaris are becoming extremely difficult to roll up and down. The driver's window has gotten to the point where I am afraid I am going to rip the window crank knob off. Seriously.
As a test, I sprayed a small amount of WD-40 into the side channels, and the window immediately became much easier to roll up and down. This lasted about a week before they became difficult again. I am concerned that continued use of WD-40 is not the appropriate procedure for this issue. Has anyone else suffered with this condition? Is there anything that can be done at home instead of making an appointment at the dealership? |

For window channels silicon spray is what the shops use.
I would look at the crank itself. I'm guessing it's binding on he plastic weather seal. |

Because the WD40 made the window work perhaps all that's needed will be a suitable lube like the silicon nortonfb mentions.

WD40 would be long term harmful for the rubber in the tracks. I would use silicone spray its the right product for this type of use. ... my thoughts

Thanks nortonfb, bronsin, and YarTed! I appreciate your advice.
Update: After a week or so of testing, the silicon spray appears to be doing the trick. I have no idea why this extra lubrication was needed so early in the life of my Yaris, though. |

I had a BMW 318 TI that would require a once a year spray. If it didn't get it
the window regulator would bend. Nasty job that always drew blood. Glad it worked out for you. |
