Exhaust pipe size
Does anyone know the Stock exhaust pipe size? I was planning to do the secondary cat delete and wanted to know what size pipe i need to weld on.

1.75"
pretty sure we only have one cat and the resonator after it.... and from what magnaflow was saying, the cat and res are 2" straight thru so if youre staying n/a id just do a res-back exhaust at 2" diameter...

We have two cats (USDM). The O2 sensor is right between them, then after the 2nd cat comes the resonator.

Hmmm.....REally our pipes are that small? I plan on going turbo eventually so maybe I'll just keep the cat.....plus I only have 3" extra pipe anyway. I don't think I have a resonator. I have a greddy tic so just a muffler. Maybe when I end up turboing my car I'll just delete everything and weld the muffle back on to a 3" pipe. What do you guys think?

i can't imagine piping being expensive. its really easy to delete that second cat, and if you're really ambitious you can remove the resonator right next to it as well, you just need to weld a new hanger on the pipe after.

I don't think we have a resonator.... I thought the resonator is the part in the back right before the outlet. As far as I know it goes cat, 02 sensor, cat, resognator, then tip
right now I think mine is cat, 02 sensor, cat, muffler. From what I know the axle back exhausts gets rid of the resonator. I dunno maybe I'll just work on a straight pipe for once i get a turbo |

Axle backs just replace the portion of the exhaust system at the rear axle. Magnaflows' "cat-back" is like my custom set up, it actually starts from the end of the resonator (resonator back).

Piping prices depend on the material used; i.e. steel, titanium, etc, and also the method used to bend them; i.e. crush bends or mandrel bends (more expensive).

Honestly, if you are going to delete the second cat, might as well do away with both. I was going to do that, and the shop gave me a warning that if a highway patrol pulls me over and see's that there's only one cat, then they can impound my car. But then again, how do they know that our car comes with a primary and secondary cat?

The resonator is the long tube right under the middle of the car, after the 2nd cat. The part in back before the tip is the muffler.
header - cat - O2 sensor - cat - resonator - piping - muffler - tip Take a look at the Nitto midpipe, it simulates your stock set up:

I thought all lambda control cars are header-02-cat-02-cat-resonator-muff. Some people call the first 02 a mixture sensor, since ours is the megadollar 0-5volt wideband not the 0-1 v wave/pulse. You gotta measure the mixture b4 its in a cat so the ECU knows the mixture. Remember, this is a 1.5L LOW rEVVING motor not a honda vtec that spins to 7500+ A 2" DIA system is plenty too big enough to kill most power under 3500 rpm.

The long-tube exhaust header Richard's been testing shows our engine benefits up to around 2.25" exhaust actually, for NA at least. No gains (no mention of losses either) going up to 2.5", but yeah, unless you're going turbo no reason to go over 2.25" it looks like.
